Helen A. Cross, 78, of Moville, died Monday, May 18, 2015, at Kingsley (Iowa) Nursing and Rehab.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are with McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Helen was born Aug. 22, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of John and P. Eileen (Larsen) Johnson. She grew up near Lawton, Iowa, and graduated from Lawton High School.
Helen married John Luther Cross Oct. 12, 1955, at Elk Point, S.D. They made their home near Moville, where they farmed and later owned and operated John’s Tap in Moville. Helen then worked at Moville Pharmacy until John's health began to fail and she stayed home to care for him. John died Aug. 31, 1998.
Helen was a member of Moville United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary No. 303.
She was a natural caregiver and liked to help out neighbors. Helen loved spending time with her family no matter what the occasion. She enjoyed eating out, spending time with friends, cooking and baking.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Marv) Flewelling of Moville, and Diane Cross (special friend Billy Schaefer) of Cedar Creek, Texas; two grandchildren, David (Linda) Flewelling of Moville and Emily (Jeremy) Bellis of Onawa, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Abbygail and Dana Flewelling, and Andelin, Laken and Brynn Bellis; two sisters, Irene Willer of Sioux City, and Karen (Mark) Wurscher of Marshalltown, Iowa; brother-in-law, Jerry Uhl of Sioux City; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, David Cross; sister, Doris Uhl; and a brother, Dan Johnson.
