SIOUX CITY -- Helen Kay (Barry) Groth, 62, of Omaha, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at a Hillcrest Nursing Home in Bellevue, Neb..
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Helen Kay Barry was born Sept. 29, 1946, in Sioux City, to George and Mae (Sokolowski) Barry. She graduated from Bishop Heelan High School with the class of 1964. She went to Western Iowa Tech Community College to receive her degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse at St. Joseph's, Marian and Mercy Hospital. She had lived in Omaha for the last three years.
She was a Notre Dame fan and enjoyed traveling. She was a master in Wii bowling and enjoyed playing cards and board games. She also enjoyed taking care of her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy and her husband, Javier Ochoa of Omaha; brothers, Dennis Barry and his wife, Jean, of Minneapolis and Bart Barry of Omaha; a sister, Lynn (Barry) Uhl of Omaha; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a nephew, Christopher Barry.
