Helen Theresa Schubert was born in Sioux City on Sept. 23, 1931, to Anna (Carroll) and George Schubert. She attended Catholic schools in Sioux City. Helen and Ellwood John Hall were married on May 13, 1948, at St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Helen began working at the age of 12 to help support her family. She worked at Kresges, J.C. Penney's, T.S. Martin's & Younkers in the shoe department. In 1968, Helen and her husband, in a partnership, opened Fashion Floors. In 1998, as sole owners, she became vice president of Fashion Floors Carpet One, where she remained active until the spring of 2009.

Throughout the years, she quietly provided birthday memories and Christmas miracles to her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her family was the most important thing to her. She will always be remembered for her love of family and the best apple pie in the world.

In 2001, Helen volunteered for new breast cancer treatment protocols in the hopes that she would save her daughter, granddaughters and future great-granddaughters from breast cancer. The future treatment of a rare form of cancer (Vulvar cancer) has been enhanced by Helen's courageous endurance of treatments including multiple surgeries, rounds of radiation, hyperbaric oxygen, whirlpool therapies and chemotherapy, which left her with excruciating pain. One of her proudest moments in this battle against cancer was when she finished the "survivors" lap by walking the last 100 yards in the Relay for Life in 2008.

Left with many loving memories are her husband, John of 61 years; her children, Linda (Wayne) Treinen of California, Denny (Jan) Hall of Nebraska, Terry (Chong) Hall of Wisconsin, Cindy (Bob) Duncan of Iowa, and Pam (Brad) Dominicak of Minnesota; grandchildren, Tiffany, Travis, Michelle, Marissa, Beth, Christina, Rachael, Aaron, Alyssa, Ashley and Sara; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Kayla, Tyler, Connor and MacKenzie; and special nieces and nephews, Cheryl Claeys, Brian, Greg and Trisha Davis and Kevin Davis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carroll Schubert; a sister, Irene Davis; and a grandson, Robert John Duncan.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland and/or June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
