HINTON, Iowa -- Helen Marion Hardersen, 96, of Hinton passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Seventh and Jennings St., in Sioux City, with The Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in Rademacher Cemetery, rural Hinton. Helen was born on March 9, 1916, to Alma (Freed) and Charles Larson of Hinton, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Hinton and attended country school at Hungerford No. 5. Helen worked in Sioux City as a housekeeper before working for the Sioux City Battery Company.
She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Dec. 7, 1947.
On May 23, 1946, Helen married Emery Hardersen in Des Moines. They have lived and worked on the family farm near Hinton for the past 65 years. During that time, Helen raised chickens, selling capons, fryers and eggs.
Helen was a longtime member of the women's neighborhood Social Circle, which supported charities, had afternoon fellowship and played cards. She enjoyed bowling with Emery on the St. Paul's Lutheran Mixed League bowling team. She was a member of the St. Paul's 500 card club, the 55 Plus Club and the Ladies Aid.
Helen was an avid fan of her children and grandchildren, supporting and attending all their activities, especially their sporting events. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and checkers, bowling and helping others. Her family always came first, and she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Emery; two sons, Darrel (Cheryl) of Onawa, Iowa, and Larry (Donna) of Hinton; three daughters, Marlene (Tom) Baumann of Washta, Iowa, Marilyn (Bill) Murra of Schaller, Iowa, and Judy (Dan) Schwartz of Coralville, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Naomi Hardersen; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Kierian Benn Hardersen; two brothers, Elmer Larson and Robert E. "Bud" Larson; and a brother-in-law, Alvin Hardersen.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jon Hardersen, Gabe Baumann, Denairic Hardersen, Will Baumann, Kadrian Hardersen, Charles Schwartz, and Kiley Murra.
