Helen Katherine Hinrichsen, 89, of Sioux City, Iowa, residing in the Holy Spirit Retirement Community, died at Mercy Medical Center on October 4, 2018. As a wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, friend, lay Carmelite, and member of the Confraternity of Mary as well as an active member of the Catholic community wherever she has lived (including Holy Spirit, Trinity Heights, St. Michael's of Sioux City, St. Michael of So. Sioux City, Nativity, Immaculate Conception and St. Paul's in Plainview, NE), Helen will continue to inspire those she touched deeply. Her love was freely given through a lifetime of parenting, praying, volunteering, sewing and baking lasagna.
Helen was born in Elgin, NE in 1928. She was the daughter of Mike and Catherine DeMuth. In 1948 she married Kenneth D. Hinrichsen in Plainview, NE.
She is survived by her children and their families; Randy and Sherri Hinrichsen of Turner, OR, Doug and Margie Hinrichsen of Le Compton,KS, Lynn Hinrichsen of Aurora, CO, Jolene Hinrichsen of Albany, OR, Janel Hinrichsen of Tuba City, AZ, Renee Hinrichsen of Topeka, KS, Julie Pappenfort of Nixa, MO, Lily (Carol) Hinrichsen of Bristol, VT, Lori Hinrichsen of Montpelier, VT and Michelle and Vic Paltz of St. Helena,NE, as well as 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and daughter-in-law, Julie Hinrichsen and her husband, Russell Dyke of Topeka, KS. She was preceded in death by her siblings Don DeMuth, Dolores Thomas and Ray DeMuth, her parents, her husband and her children Joan, Kent, Michael, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A prayer vigil, visitation and wake will be held on Sunday, October 14 at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Larkin Chapel, 2320 Outer Drive North (please enter on the Division Street side), with a rosary starting at 4:30 pm and a service starting at 5 pm. Visitation will close at 8 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 15 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel, 1701 W. 25th St. with viewing beginning at 9 am, rosary at 10 am and services commencing at 10:30 am.
Burial will be on Tuesday, October 16 at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Plainview, Nebraska.
