Helen Agness Johnson-Hunter, 84, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today at Glad Tidings Lighthouse Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at

Helen was born March 12, 1923, to Nels and Petra (Lee) Olson, in Sioux City. She attended and graduated from East High School with the class of 1942.
She and Bjarnie Johnson were married in October 1942 in Sioux City. Bjarnie passed away on Dec. 14, 1963. On Nov. 15, 1997, she and James Pete Hunter were married in Elk Point, S.D. She was a home health care giver until her retirement.
She loved to read the Bible and loved the Lord Jesus, travel and was so very young at heart. She loved her children and grandbabies very much.
Survivors include her husband, James P. Hunter; a brother, Mel Olson; a sister, Alice Rivia; a brother and his wife, John and Darlene; a son and his wife, Jerry and Pat; a daughter, Jeanette; a son and his wife, Dennis and Karen; a daughter, Sondra; a son and his wife, Mark and Monica; a son and his wife, Steve and Donna; a daughter, Sue and her special friend, Mike; a daughter, Pam; a daughter, Lori; grandchildren and spouses, Loni and Shucha Johnson, Renee and Brad Gunderson, Gina and Brad Stephens, Randy and Cami Hammond, Shelly Jensen, Kip and Gina Johnson, Cristie and Dave Anson, David Linn, Chad Johnson, Jodi and Chris Margellos, Kenneth Torsells, Angela Herr, Mindy, Andrew Johnson, Sharrie and Bill Ely, Sean Muscle, Savannah Mussel, Alicia, Marisa and David; great-grandchildren, Mailla, Kyla, Byrgin, Cilja, Gunnor, Jacob, Jessica, Jamie, Tanner, Hunter, Cooper, Colton, Justin, Shannon, Kaylee, Emily, Colin, Tyler, Lily, Bai, Breanna, Brandi, Jordan, Zachary, Alyssa and Keden;
and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bjarnie in 1963; her parents, Petra and Nels Olson; a grandson, Tucker Hammond; a brother, Milo Olson; grandsons, Michael Troy Linn and Timothy Hammond; and sons-in-law, Carl Hammond and Jerry Musel.
