Helen Christine Kaufmann, 90, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Countryside Retirement Community.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Calvary Cemetery, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Helen was born April 12, 1917, in Sioux City, the daughter of Carl and Amelia Thomas.
She married Russell Kaufmann in 1942. The couple made their home in Minneapolis until returning to Sioux City in 1961. Russell died Feb. 2, 2004.
Helen was a longtime member of St. Francis Church and later, Church of the Nativity. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening and playing bingo. Helen also had a great affection and concern for animals, especially dogs.
The family would like to thank the staff of Countryside and Hospice of Siouxland for their care of Helen.
Survivors include a brother, Joe Thomas of Sioux City; nieces, Patty and Richard Johnston and daughter, Kaitlin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nephew, Jim and Dee Dee Tymkowicz of Sioux City and their sons, Derek and Shane and families; great nephews, Michael and Tom Tymkowicz; a niece, Doretta Bockholt of Jefferson, S.D.; and brother-in-law, Donald Kaufmann and good friend, Dorothy Church of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Caroline Malone and Sammie Tymkowicz; a brother, Paul Thomas; and a niece, Bernie Walker.
