Helen was born on July 9, 1931, to James and Sena (Miller) Christensen. She spent her early years in her hometown of Hartington, Nebraska, before moving to Sioux City in 1945. Helen married Robert J. Kelly on March 17, 1955, in Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple enjoyed 45 years of marriage before Robert’s passing on May 7, 2000.

Helen lived a life full of devotion, kindness, and joy. As a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star and past Worthy Matron, she embodied the values of charity, truth, and loving-kindness. She was a beloved community member who spent many years managing the Sunshine Grocery Store Café. Her warm smile and welcoming nature were as memorable as her delicious meals. She was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church.

Helen had a remarkable way of showing her love through food. Whether she was baking pies, whipping up cookies, or preparing a special dish, her kitchen was always filled with the aroma of love. She never missed an opportunity to share her treats, bringing joy to everyone around her.

Helen treasured her family above all else. She is survived by her loving grandchildren: Jenny (David) Clabaugh and their son, Hudson; Paul (Rhobia) Brewer and their 3 sons, Breck, Weston, and Colby; Kristopher Brewer; Angelia Brewer; Shelly Krohn; Timothy Laizure; and her son-in-law, Paul Brewer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sena; her beloved husband, Robert; her cherished daughters, Betty Laizure and Terry Brewer; and her brother, Orville Christensen.

Helen would make friends wherever she went. Her strength, warmth, and generous spirit touched all who knew her. May her memory forever be a blessing, and her legacy of love live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
