Helen Irene Peters (Weidaman)

Lawton, Iowa - Helen I. Peters, 88, of Lawton died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Helen was born on April 14, 1925, in Lawton, the daughter of Christ and Rosa (Hoffman) Weidaman. She grew up in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School.
Helen married Raymond Peters on June 23, 1946, in Hinton, Iowa. They made their home in Kingsley, Iowa, and other area towns before returning to Lawton in 1947. Helen and Ray traveled everywhere together.
She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, where Helen and Ray did the tape ministry for more than 30 years. She loved playing cards any time and all the time. Helen enjoyed being outside working in the yard, looking at the trees, and listening to the birds. She also liked animals of all kinds and having the dogs around the house.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Peters of Lawton; two daughters, Sandra and Terrance Johnson of Lawton, and Glenda and Thomas Tullis of Boone, Iowa; a son, Gary and Pat Peters of Lawton; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Glen Weidaman of Paulina, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fritz Weidaman; and a sister, Elizabeth Vest.
