Helen May Sager, 87, of Sioux Falls, formally of Sioux City, IA, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Southridge Healthcare in Sioux Falls, SD. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 23 at 11:00 AM at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery.
Helen was born on May 11, 1929 in Sioux City to John and Gertrude Fisher. She was raised in Kingsley, IA and was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1948. Helen was united in marriage to James H. Sager on February 16, 1974 in Elk Point, SD. He preceded her in death and she later married Robert Seltzer. He also preceded her in death. She worked as a babysitter and as a housekeeper for many Sioux City businesses. Helen was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering as a senior companion, going out to dinner, putting puzzles together, playing bingo, and kings four corner card game. Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, and good friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all.
Those left to honor her memory include her two sons: William (Betty) DeMent, Sioux Falls, SD, Robert (Beth) DeMent, Silver City, NM; step-daughter, Cyndi Duplex, Sioux Falls; half-brother, Marvin (Carol)Nelson, Sioux City, IA; 7 grandkids; 20 great-grandkids.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry DeMent; husbands; and brothers.
