SIOUX CITY -- Henry Joseph Holdenried, 82, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Sioux City, died Aug. 27, 2009, in Las Vegas.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dennis Meinen officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Henry was born in Sioux City on Nov. 9,1929, the son of Howard E. and Alberta (Barrett) Holdenried. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City until moving to Las Vegas six years ago. He attended Sioux City School. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He served in Okinawa and was awarded the Purple Heart.
After the service he returned to Sioux City, where he married Patricia M. Reilly. He later married Frances Brown. Henry owned and operated Holdenried Plumbing and later worked for Climate Control and Rogge Plumbing. He also worked as a project manager and plumbing estimator.
He was a former member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Henry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and he loved living in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his children, Howard and Shirley Holdenried of Sioux City, Trudy Bauman of Sergeant Bluff and Ken Bauman of Elk Point, S.D.; his grandchildren, Tricia and C.J. Bauman, Abby and Wesley Holdenried and Jon Moberg; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Teryne Bauman and Calvin Blair; a special friend, Virginia Reid; stepchildren, Frank Brown, Judy Walker, Pam Tierman and Rick Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Jean; and an infant grandson.
A memorial has been established in his name for the Sioux City Carmelite Monastery, 2901 So. Cecelia St., Sioux City, IA. 51106.
