Herbert Charles Payne, 77, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Herb was born on Feb. 26, 1940, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Ralph and Delphine (Sievers) Payne.
Herb was married to Julia Baker and to that union they had one daughter, Regan. He later married Theresa Oleson on May 18, 1973 in Elk Point, S.D. From this union Herb became the father of three beautiful girls, Angelina, Anna, and Mary, and later welcomed their fifth daughter, Christine. In his early years, Herb worked for Wilson Trailer, Brower Construction, and later for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring after 27 years in 2002.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Angelina (Henry) Montoya of Los Lunas, N.M., Anna (Ken) Oleson-Gross of Albuquerque, N.M., Mary (Clint) Essig of Sioux City, Regan (Tim) Tapper of Aurelia, Iowa, and Christine (Brad) Petersen of Cumberland, Iowa; grandchildren, Catherine, Josh, Chaz, Jeremy, Christopher, Erika, Shelby B., Lance, Charles, Nicole, Shelby E., Alexandria, and Jakob; great-grandchildren, Jorge, Elena, Tanner, Ava, Bentley, and Asher; special friend, Laurie Comer; his beloved pets, Balboa and Buddy; extended family and many friends; and his brother from another mother, Heral Jensen.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; wife, Theresa; and mother and father-in-law.
