The Rev. Herman H. Kelly, 91, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Life Community Church, with Pastor Bill Boehm officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to

Herman was born Oct. 19, 1916, at Missouri Valley, Iowa, the son of George and Emma (Hoffman) Kelly. He was raised in the area and attended country school near there.
He married Helen Haralson on Nov. 5, 1937, at Sioux City. Together they made their home in the area, moving into Sioux City in the late 1990s. Herman worked for National Food Stores and their affiliates, Hinky-Dinky and Piggly-Wiggly for 30 years.
He was a Methodist minister for more than 30 years and filled in for many area churches, spending most of his time at Sac City and Schaller, Iowa. Herman also worked at the funeral home in Odebolt, Iowa. He retired in 1995.
He was a member of New Life Community Church in Sioux City. Herman enjoyed crafts, gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Kelly of Sioux City; a son, Jerry Kelly of St. Joseph, Mo.; many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Freda Vance; nieces, nephews and many friends close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma Kelly; a son, Herman Jr. Kelly; a sister, Triva Willis; and three brothers, Glen, Howard and Floyd.
