Sioux City - Hilda L. Wingert, 85, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at a local hospital.
Per her request, the body will be cremated. There will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Hilda was born on April 23, 1927, in Hudson, S.D., to John and Mamie (Nelson) Sypersma. She was raised in Fairview, S.D., and attended school. She later moved to Bronson, Iowa, where she attended Bronson High School.
She married Elmer Wingert on March 29, 1959, in Lawton, Iowa. She worked with her husband on the farm until 1972, when they moved to Sioux City. After they moved into town, she did janitorial work, landscaping and worked at the Sunshine Grocery Store.
Hilda enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, knitting, cross stitching, embroidering and family events. She was the last of 11 children.
Survivors include her son, Chris and Pam Wingert of Madison, S.D.; a daughter, Roxanne Wingert of Sioux City; and two grandchildren, Jerrid Wingert and Megan Wingert, both of Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers, Harold, Walter, Charles, John and Julius; and five sisters, Idella and Rosie Sypersma, Sylvia Bays, Annie Miller, and Alice Johnson.
