SIOUX CITY -- Hilma L. Sloane, 95, of Sioux City died on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at a South Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Andy Andersen officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Hilma was born on Dec. 14, 1915, in Sioux City, the daughter of Carl and Laura (Hultman) Anderson. She was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1933. She attended Nettleton Business Training School.
Hilma married Amos Craft on March 23, 1935, in Elk Point, S.D. Amos died on Aug. 31, 1941. On March 17, 1954, she married Samuel E. Sloane in Dakota City, Neb. Samuel died on Nov. 20, 1997, in Sioux City. Hilma worked at Armour & Co. for 16 years.
She had been a member of the First Christian Church since 1957. Hilma enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, canning, crocheting, sewing and bowling, winning several trophies in the senior division.
Hilma is survived by two sons and their wives, Ralph and Sandra Craft of Williamsburg, Va., and Ronald and Linda Craft of Sioux City; daughter-in-law, Norma Craft of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son, Ross C. Craft; two sisters, Gerda (George) Skidmore and Esther (Kenneth) Hill; and three brothers, Arthur W. (Teckla), Victor A (Marty) and Arnold V (Roberta) Anderson.
She will always be remembered as a loving, gentle, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a great lady with a wonderful sense of humor and has left us with wonderful memories that will always keep her close to our hearts.
A memorial has been established in her name for the First Christian Church, Sioux City, IA.
