Howard 'Bud' Eugene "Bud" Chapman

MOVILLE, Iowa -- Howard "Bud" Chapman, 88, of Moville died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville. Bud was born Dec. 10, 1921, at Honey Creek, Iowa, the son of Lester and Hazel (Day) Chapman. He moved with his family to Turin, Iowa, when he was 1 year old. He graduated from Onawa High School in 1938.
He married Catherine Carroll in 1941. To this union, there were five children, Dennis, Gary, Jeannie, Buddie Ann and Kelly.
Bud joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Guantanamo, Cuba, as a radarman first class on the destroyers USS Blakely and USS Scroggins for four years. In the 1960s, he was employed by the Montana State Feeders Association to inspect cattle brands coming to the Sioux City Stockyards and surrounding area.
Auctioneering became a part of his life from 1962 on. Besides the local sale barn (Bliel Chapman), he was associated with Dick Richards, Bob Herbold and Harold Ruden. The last several years, he and his sons, Gary and Kelly, were Chapman Auctioneers.
Bud served as an announcer during rodeo season for Mid-States Rodeo Association, URA Association and was most proud to have announced the Iowa High School Rodeo for more than 25 years. He served on the Woodbury County Fair Board for more than 40 years and did the Bonus sale for 38 years.
Bud was a member of Moville United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of American Legion Wink-Sparks Post 303 in Moville, and a charter member of the Meadows Golf Course. He was dedicated to Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and many other charitable organizations.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gary and Susan Chapman and Kelly and Donna Chapman, all of Moville; two daughters and their husbands, Jeannie and Jeff Crick and Buddie Ann and Russell Spotts, all of Moville; grandsons, Christopher Chapman, John and Kelly Lanham, Jesse and Ryane Lanham, Justin and Amy Crick and Levi Chapman; granddaughters, Sara and Jason Klingensmith, Jodi and Bret Peterson, Alison and Sam Probasco, Suzann Chapman, Rebecca and Jeff Schultzen, Shawna and Tom Dennison and Janna Crick; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Carter and Kyan Schultzen, Emma, John and Avery Lanham, Colby and Cade Klingensmith, Jacob, Ty and Halle Dennison, Jolee Sprinkle, Jordan Lanham, Leah Crick, Will Engles and Laci and Dakota Peterson; a special friend, Nancy Countryman of Moville; a niece, Marilyn Raymond; and three nephews, Myron Hunt, Marion Hunt and Younger Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Chapman; a brother, Morris Chapman; and sisters, Evelyn Hogue and Catherine Hunt.
