MOVILLE, Iowa -- H. Russell Griep, 89, of Moville died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rock Branch United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville.
Russell was born Feb. 3, 1918, on a farm near Moville, the son of Fred and Edna (Carney) Griep. He grew up in the area and attended a country school. He entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home and farmed.
He married Louise Creekmur on Sept. 3, 1951. Together, they made their home on the farm. He retired from farming in 1998.
He attended the Evangelical Church of Moville among others in the area. He was a member of the Wink Sparks American Legion Post 303 of Moville. He enjoyed baseball and football. He was a Twins and Cornhusker fan.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Griep of Moville; a daughter and her husband, Lorna and Michael Luse of Sioux City; a son, Ronald Griep; and a grandson, Chris Luse of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ila Griep.
