Howard "Tom" Youngberg, 62, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at a Cherokee, Iowa, nursing home after a courageous battle with dementia.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux City. Inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Tom was born on Aug. 12, 1952, in Roswell, N.M., to Howard L. and Dolores (Hills) Youngberg. He graduated from East High School and attended college for a year at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
He was united in marriage to Janet Garrigan on May 10, 1975, at St. Francis Church in Sioux City. Tom was employed at Wilson Trailer as a welder for 33 years.
He enjoyed photography, camping, canoeing, hiking, fishing, reading, and traveling. Tom will always be remembered as a very caring, gentle man.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 40 years, Janet; sons, Brandon Lee (Adam) Youngberg of Sioux City, and Aaron Youngberg of Sioux City; sister, Beth Youngberg of Sioux City; brothers, Randy (Molly) Youngberg of O'Fallon, Mo., and Steve Youngberg of Dyer, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Lisa Ann; and a sister-in-law, Vicki Youngberg.
