Ida Ione Smith, 86, of Moville passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Moville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ed Frank will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville.
Ida was born on June 23, 1929, in Orient, S.D., the daughter of Leonard and Irene (Smith) Johnson. She moved to Sioux City as a small child and was raised there.
She married Lester Ashton Smith on March 4, 1947, in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple lived in the Black Hills of South Dakota and moved to Moville in 1959. After Lester retired, they moved to Rapid City, S.D., for several years before returning to Moville. Ida worked at Palmer Co. before becoming a wife and homemaker and later worked at the Imperial 400 Motel in Sioux City for 10 years. Lester died on Aug. 1, 2000, in Moville.
Ida was a member of Moville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary in Rapid City and Moville. Ida loved working puzzles, word finds and reading. She was also an excellent seamstress.
She is survived by four children, Marcia Smith of Moville, Shirley (Frank) Ellis of Alexandria, Va., Lester A (Dorothy) Smith Jr. of Moville, and Wesley (Carolyn) Smith of Sioux City. Ida had six grandchildren, Pat and Andy, Matthew and Steven, Tiki Potter and Betty Dey; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Adam Michael Smith; her brothers, Calvin and Merle Johnson; and her sisters, Donna Snyder and baby Violet.
