SIOUX CITY -- Inez May Drake, 98, of Sioux City died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Pehrson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Inez was born on Jan. 24, 1911, in Oakdale, Neb., the daughter of George W. and Jeannie Belle (Black) Buckmaster. She lived in Oakdale until she moved to Sioux City in 1929. She married John E. Drake on Dec. 10, 1944. He died on Nov. 18, 1981, in Sioux City.
Inez was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a former member of Whitfield United Methodist Church. She was a life member of the Siouxland Senior Center and the Siouxland Crafters. She was also a member of the Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge 77. In 1989, she received the Governor's award for outstanding volunteer service to the state of Iowa. She also received an outstanding service award from the Women of the Whitfield United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Glenn and Kathryn Drake of Sergeant Bluff, and John E. and Nettie Drake of Pottsboro, Texas; grandson, Joseph and Vicky Drake of Sioux City; granddaughter, Jeanene Wippert of Sioux City; two stepgrandsons, Robert and Leanna Bottger of Moville, Iowa, and David and Frances Bottger of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; stepgranddaughter, Joanne Bottger of Burlington, Vt.; great-grandchildren, Roman, Paul and Adam Wippert; step-great-grandchildren, Mary, Alex, Zoe, Isabelle, Evelyn and Eamonn Bottger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Andrew, Frank, Elmer, Glen and George Buckmaster; and a sister, Leona Werner.
