Ione Josephine Franzen, 102, of Sioux City, passed away on Aug. 21, 2017, at a local care facility.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Ione was born in Wakefield, Neb., on Feb. 18, 1915, the daughter of Elmer and Mabel (Seagren) Fleetwood. She attended and graduated from Wakefield Public Schools.
She was united in marriage with Elmer E. Franzen in January 1942. The couple moved to Sioux City and made it their home. Mr. Franzen preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1992 in Sioux City.
Ione worked as the head cook at Cummings Nursing Home for more than 21 years. She attended First Evangelical Free Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Coslow and her husband, James of Troy, Mich.; two grandsons, James Jr. of Royal Oak, Mich., and Jon (Tamara Myers) of Chicago, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Jameson who is currently serving in the U.S. Peace Corps in Moldova, and Caroline of Royal Oak.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Howard Fleetwood; and a sister, Elaine Byers.
