Irene B. Amundson, 95, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 28, at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave. Irene was interred alongside her husband in Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to

Mrs. Amundson and her five siblings were born and raised in Iowa. She graduated from St. Olaf College with degrees in English, literature and music. Following graduation, Irene taught English and music at Slayton High School in Slayton, Minn. Her high school choirs won numerous awards and were nationally recognized.
Irene married Arthur Amundson in Slayton, Minn., and they were married 57 years. After naval military service during World War II, the Amundsons moved to Sioux City in the late 1940s. Arthur taught chemistry and was assistant principal at Sioux City Central High School for many years.
Irene was a housewife, who was also active in the First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, and served in several PTAs and in multiple neighborhood projects. Additionally, she taught business English at Nettleton Business Training Institute in Sioux City.
Survivors include a sister, Lydia; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Stan and Dr. Pam Amundson of San Diego, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Christina and Heidi.
