Irene Evelyn Kruithoff, 96, of Sioux City died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Countryside Retirement Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James United Methodist Church, 2032 South Cypress St., in Sioux City. The Rev. Ryan Christenson will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City. She was born on Monday, Aug. 12, 1918, in South Sioux City, the daughter of George Harris and Lillian (Humphrey) Harris. Irene was raised in South Sioux City and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1936.
She married Harm Andrew Kruithoff on May 23, 1936, in Vermillion, S.D. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1936 and lived on an acreage just east of town for many years. They later moved into Sioux City. Harm died on Jan. 12, 2000, in Sioux City.
She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. Irene also belonged to the Siouxland Crafters Club since 1972 and really enjoyed the group.
Survivors include her sister, Berta Gribas of California; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and six brothers and sisters.
