Sioux City - Irene Doris Magel Prince, 94, of Sioux City passed away Aug. 9, 2013, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Private family graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1918, near Ocheyedan, Iowa, to Herman and Ida (Schmidt) Glade. Irene attended Zion Lutheran School and Church in Horton Township. She was confirmed in May 1932 and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1935.
She married Arthur Magel on May 18, 1941. While Mr. Magel served in World War II, Irene operated a beauty shop in Ocheyedan. Following the war, they lived in Sioux City, where they raised their five children. Irene was an instructor in piano and organ for 30 years. She served as church organist at Redeemer Lutheran Church for 50 years. Mr. Magel died in 1981. Irene married Berwyn Prince on June 11, 1983. He died on Nov. 21, 1985.
She was a member of LORL, Ladies at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed participation in a sewing club, a card club and the Elco Garhum Study Club.
Survivors include her children, Margene Magel Aeling, Wade (LeeAnn) Magel, and Paula (Fred) Gibilisco; daughter-in-law, Nancy Magel, widow of Neil Magel; stepchildren, Gary (Linda) Prince, and Sandra (Ernest) Poyzer; grandchildren, Alison Magel-Wilson, Nathan Magel, Angela Gibilisco-Perry, and David Gibilisco; stepgrandchildren, Steffanie Prince Mapp, Jackie Prince Arends, and Denise Eades; and a sister, Evelyn Claus.
Mrs. Prince was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Neil Magel and Gaylon Magel; her husband, Berwyn L. Prince; two brothers; and a sister.
