Irene M. Wineman, 86, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 6:15 p.m. led by Jim and Kathy Rehal and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Irene was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Sioux City, the daughter of John and Mary (Rutowicz) Tokarczyk. She lived most of her life in Sioux City. She attended East High School. Prior to her marriage, she worked with her parents at their grocery store, The Fairmont Grocery.
She married George Wineman on Feb. 20, 1943, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She was a former member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a current member of the Church of the Nativity. She enjoyed reading, sewing and crocheting. She loved helping other people, be it cutting the grass or shoveling snow. She also enjoyed tending to her roses in her garden.
She is survived by her husband, George; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Dan Protexter of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Danielle at the University of Iowa, Ned, Laurel, Joe, Julia, Jake and Nate, all at home; her sister, Sister Mary Judith Tokarczyk, O.F.S. of St. Louis, Mo.; and her brother, Leo Tokarczyk of Springfield, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John; her sister, Agnes Christiansen; and two brothers, John and Walt.
Pallbearers will be Mark Protexter, Dan Protexter, Mike Tokarczyk, Nic Daane, Joe Protexter and Ned Protexter. Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Protexter, Nate Protexter and Leo Tokarczyk.
