Isaac Francis Rector Sr., 80 of Sergeant Bluff died Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Embassy Healthcare Community in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes located at 1801 Morningside Ave in Sioux City, with the Rev. Carl Sodaro officiating. Francis was born Nov. 7, 1935 in Roscoe, Mo., to Orville Sr. and Magnolia (Underwood) Rector. He grew up in Missouri and at the age of 16, he moved to Dakota City to live with family. He graduated from Dakota City High School in 1956.
Francis married Joan Berger on Feb. 16, 1957 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Dakota City for a few years and then moved to the west side of Sioux City. Francis was employed as a supervisor with Swift Dairy and Poultry until the plant closed. He then went to work for the Sioux City Community Schools, more specifically Crescent Park Elementary, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Francis loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and gardening, He also loved to cook. He used to cook enough to feed an army; he never wanted anyone to go away hungry. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved to just sit and visit.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years Joan; five children, Isaac F. Rector Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Ella M. Tonjum and her husband, Mark of Ames, Iowa, MaDonna A. Vaydich and her husband, Larry of Sioux City, Randy J. Rector of Moville, Iowa, and Larry J. Rector and his wife, Amy Smith of Bridgeport, W.V.; 10 grandchildren, Isaac F. Rector III, Mark Tonjum Jr. and Tami Arends, Matthew Tonjum and his wife, Jamie, Michael Tonjum and Carrie Dodd, JoAnna Hale and her husband, Michael, Jessica Selde and her husband, Joseph, Joseph Cohen, Miranda Rector, Raymond Rector and Fisher Rector; five great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter and one more on the way; four brothers, Orville and his wife, Charlene Rector, Keith and his wife, Anita Rector, Rolly and his wife, LaDonna Rector and Lee rector; and a sister Orvilla Wade.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Magnolia Rector; two sisters, Mildred Bryant and Betty June Rector; and three brothers, James Rector, William Rector and Raymond Rector.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Siouxland and the staff at Embassy Health Care in Sergeant Bluff for all the loving care they provided to Francis.
