Isabel M. Callahan, 94, of Sioux City passed away Friday, March 7, 2008, at Countryside Senior Living in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin J. Schrad, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Monday, with a rosary at 9:15 a.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel.
Isabel was born on Sept. 2, 1913, in Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Nelson and Mary (Mc Donnell) Duhaime. The family lived in Salix until Isabel was 13. They then moved to a couple of different towns before moving to Boulder, Colo. She graduated from Mount St. Gertrude Academy in Boulder. She then attended the University of Colorado. After leaving college, she moved to Sioux City and had lived here most of her life.
She married Earl J. Callahan on Aug. 4, 1943, in Oregon. He died on April 16, 1969, in Sioux City. Isabel was employed as an executive secretary for a number of businesses. She then was a homemaker and housewife. After the death of her husband, she again became an executive secretary at Briar Cliff College.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church as well as a number of the church organizations. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Ave Maria Court 269 and was one of the founding members of the Carmelite Guild. Isabel was an avid reader and enjoyed painting, wood and ceramics.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marigail and Tom Mullin of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Matthew Mullin of New York City, N.Y., Molly Mullin of Carrboro, N.C., Michael Mullin of Iowa City, Iowa, and Mark Mullin of New York City; a niece, Sister Margaret Mary Griffin; and two nephews, James Griffin and John Beal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother and four sisters.
