Iva Fern Wilen, 91, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. LeRoy Struble officiating. Burial will be in Smithland Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to

Iva was born Oct. 29, 1916, near Rodney, Iowa, the daughter of John and Eva (Holbrook) Nelsen. She attended school in Rodney.
She married Myrick Wilen on April 17, 1935, in Elk Point, S.D. While in Sioux City, she worked at Wincharger. She lived more than half her life in Sioux City but also lived in other places and saw many things. Some of places she lived were Seattle and Tacoma, Wash., Missoula, Mont., Alliance, Neb., Juno and Anchorage, Alaska and Martinez, Calif. Myrick died on Dec. 31, 1971.
She was a member of the Eagles Club and the Senior Center. She enjoyed making porcelain china dolls.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Richard and Evelyn Wilen of Sioux City; two grandsons, Richard Wilen Jr. and his wife, Kim of Peculiar, Mo., and Michael Wilen of Sioux City; a granddaughter and her husband, Michelle and Steve Blume of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren, Richard III, Andrea, Joseph and Rylie; and a sister and her husband, Anna Marie and Charles Hughes of Westfield, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Myrick; and two sisters, Leona and Bernice.
