Ivan "Art" Streeter

Ivan Arthur (Art) Streeter, 71, passed away January 8, 2023, at a Sioux City hospital from
complications of a rare blood/bone marrow disorder. Services will be on Friday, January 13, 2023, at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church with Vicar Paige McGrath officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 12, from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, 1801 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City, IA. Interment will be in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.christysmith.com . Art was born May 26th 1951, the son of Ivan Ellsworth and Eleanor “Tolly” (Tollefson) Streeter. He married Susan Bonnie Dahms in April 1977. They were deeply in love until Susan died in his arms in 2004 from brain cancer. This loving union produced three fine boys, now young men. They were truly blessed. Art grew up and lived in Sioux City his entire life, graduating from East High School. Art was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and also a friend to many. He retired from MidAmerican Energy Company in his 44th year of service. Retiring as a journeyman cable splicer represented by IBEW local #499. Before becoming ill, Art was a devoted blood donor helping save many lives through his selfless donations of more than 16 gallons. After he became ill, Art became close friends with the wonderful people at Sunnybrook infusion center. Art received more than three hundred units of blood and platelets. He was an advocate of law and order and the rule of law. His father was a Sioux City police officer and one of his sons is a federal agent. Art was a lifelong and active member of St. Luke Lutheran church having been baptized, confirmed, married, and now buried there. He also served as an usher and member of the church council. He was a master mason proudly belonging to Tyrian Lodge# 508 and The Scottish Rite Bodies of Sioux City. Left to honor Art's memory are his three sons and their wives, Jason and Dr. Jennifer Streeter MD, PhD and their two sons Ivan and Alex of Iowa City. Steven and Keri Streeter and their two sons Connor and Carter of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Thomas and Teresa Streeter and their two sons Jack and Jameson of McCook Lake S.D. Nephew Dwight (Kathy) Streeter of Calgary, AB Canada. Nephew Troy (Melissa) Thomas of Sioux City and niece Pam Ericson of Sioux City, Nancy Smith a very special loving companion and special friend who helped him with and through his life's challenges. Art had good friends, Doug Carlson, Larry Johnson, Blake Miller, Craig Roth, Rex Schroder, Skip Jahde, Bob Scott, and Rahna Buschman. They were always happy and eager to share their friendship and offer a helping hand.The family wishes to thank all of his friends that became family at Unity Point infusion center and hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife Susan, parents Ivan and Tolly, a sister Barbara, brother Bob and sister-in-law Barbara. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Carlson and Art’s six grandsons.
