Jacob Vernon "Jake" Howard, 19, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, while being with his friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Janice Bennett officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to

Jake was born June 14, 1988, in Sioux City, the son of Delvin and Lonnel (Beatty) Howard, and had been a lifelong resident of Sioux City. He attended Emerson and Riverview elementary schools, West Middle School (he was in the first eighth-grade class at the new West Middle School) and West High School, graduating in 2006.
He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Jake loved all sports, including bowling, basketball, hunting, fishing, Little League baseball and especially enjoyed hanging out with and supporting his friends.
Survivors include his parents, Delvin and Lonnel Howard; two sisters, Kathryn Howard and her boyfriend, Derek Woods, and Kristina Howard and her boyfriend, Ben Goracke, all of Sioux City; his maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Myrna and Bob Koeppe of McCook Lake, S.D.; his paternal grandmother, Myrna Howard of Sioux City; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his two grandfathers, Charles Beatty and Vernon Howard.
