James Henry Brockman was born on May 1, 1939, to Adolph and Mary (McLarty) Brockman in Castana, Iowa. He was raised in that area and attended schools there. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1966. He was married a short while to which two sons were born, James and Tony.
He was of the Lutheran faith and was very private in many ways. He held several jobs over the years but most recently, he worked as a custodian at Abu Bekr Shrine Temple until his retirement.
Jimmy liked playing pool and darts but most of all, participating in the Shrine parades. He loved to work on his house and yard. He was a member of Landmark Masonic Lodge 103, A.F. & A.M. for 36 years, Abu Bekr Shrine and Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron. He was captain of the Rat Patrol for two terms. He was also a member of the Foot Patrol and Wrecking Crew.
He loved to work on his Odyssey, which was the standard everybody measured their machines by. He took pride in all his work, not always the fastest worker, but when the job was done, it was done right. He was always willing to help anybody on any project they were working on, giving of himself unconditionally. No matter what he had going on, he always put you first. He was a true perfectionist in everything he did.
Survivors include his two sons, James and Tony; a sister-in-law, Karen Brockman of Smithland, Iowa; an uncle, LeRoy (Doris) Douglas of Oto, Iowa; two aunts, Phyllis McLarty of Smithland and Thelma McLarty of Holstein, Iowa; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jerry and John Brockman.
Jimmy will be missed greatly by all his friends, neighbors and brothers and sisters of the different fraternities to which he belonged. The family would like to express their gratitude to Jim's doctors and the wonderful care given by Indian Hills Care Center and a very special thank you to Hospice of Siouxland.
