James Richard Crumrine

DAKOTA DUNES -- James R. Crumrine, 82, of Dakota Dunes died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jim was born June 19, 1929, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of James and Florence (Jacobson) Crumrine. As a child, he moved with his family to Sioux City where he attended school and graduated from Central High School.

Jim married Marilyn Murphy and they had five children. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a cryptographer until his retirement in the early 1970s after 23 years. Because of his military service, he and his family lived throughout the United States and in England, the Philippines and Turkey.

Jim moved to Arizona and worked for the University of Arizona as a police officer for more than 15 years. He married Iona Mahoney in Tucson, Ariz. They moved back to Sioux City in the early 2000s. Iona died March 17, 2007.

Jim was a member of the VFW and many other military organizations. He was a member of the Elks Club.

Survivors include his children, Michael Crumrine of Tucson, Terry Crumrine of Tucson, Janice Knight of Sioux City, Nancee Shoning of Pewaukee, Wis., and Sandra Tague of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Jimmy Crumrine of Tucson, Kaylee Taylor of Omaha, Neb., Jennifer Tague of Sioux Falls, Edward Shoning Jr. of Pewaukee and Nicholas Tague of Tucson; and a great-grandson, Britton Taylor of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Iona; and a sister, Patricia Babcock.
