James B. Hodgins

SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- James B. Hodgins, 83, of South Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in South Sioux City after an illness with Alzheimer's disease.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Assembly of God Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel in Sioux City. Online condolences may be posted at www.christysmith.com .
James Bernard Hodgins was born March 6, 1928, in Dakota City, the son of Daniel and Irene (Smith) Hodgins. He was raised in rural Waterbury and Jackson, Neb., and South Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1946 until January 1948, and again September 1950 to May 1953. James was a World War II and Korean War veteran.
He married Ruth Holmberg in November 1949. She passed away Nov. 18, 1961. He married Beverly (Morris) Larson on Oct. 2, 1964. She passed away Aug. 19, 2002. To his first marriage, two sons were born, Daniel and Michael. With his second marriage, he welcomed two more sons, Lonnie and Morey Larson. He and Beverly completed their family with the addition of James Christopher Hodgins.
James was employed at Metz Baking Co. and Floyd Valley Packing Co. in Sioux City and IAMS in North Sioux City. He and Beverly also owned Custom Decorator Shop in Sioux City.
Survivors include his sons, Daniel and his wife, Vicki (Hagedon), Morey Larson and his wife, Tammy (Deist), James and his wife, Laura (Zunker), all of Sioux City, and Lonnie Larson and his wife, Tammy (Bishop) of Wilmington, N.C.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dani Sue Peterson (David) and their children, Leanna and Samuel of Bronson, Iowa, Benjamin Hodgins (Tiana Veldhuizen) and their children, Eden, Ember and Ezra of Sioux Falls, S.D., Isaac Hodgins (Jackie Nielsen) and their children, Madeline, Christian, Noah and a baby due in October, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Nathaniel Hodgins (Sarah Knox) and their children, Natalie and Shawn of Windom, Minn., David Larson and Halea Larson, both of Wilmington, N.C., Matt Larson (fiancee Cassie Rysta) and Marc Larson, all of Ames, Iowa, and Nick Larson, Mary, Beth, Juliana, Rachel, James Daniel, Joshua, Lily and Michael Hodgins, all of Sioux City; brothers, Patrick, Paul (Margo), William (Joan), Douglas (Lesa), Emmett (Robyn), Steve (Mary) and Ronald (Debra) Hodgins; sisters, Donna Young, Rose (Jerry) McNaughton and Margaret (Gordon) Schmeckpeper; a sister-in-law, Lois Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a son, Michael; a great-grandson, Elias Hodgins; a sister, Betty Newburn; brothers-in-law, Chuck Newburn, James Young, Robert Jr. and DeWayne Morris; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Hodgins.
