James Junior "Jim" Hobbs

SIOUX CITY -- James Jr. "Jim" Hobbs, 82, of Sioux City, formerly of Moville, Iowa, passed away at a local nursing home due to a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resurrection Lutheran Church in North Sioux City, with the Rev. Timothy Daene officiating. Private family graveside services will be held. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Jim was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Sioux City. He grew up and attended school in the Moville area. He was a longtime resident of the Moville, Pierson and Kingsley, Iowa area. He later moved to Sioux City, then Windom, Minn., and later returned to Sioux City.

He married Josephine Baker on June 26, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. Josephine passed away Sept. 4, 1998. He was employed with Simonsen Rendering Plant and he farmed during his working career.

He was of the Lutheran faith. His hobbies included bowling, cribbage and football. He had a great sense of humor and loved his grandchildren. He also was an animal lover.

Survivors include his two sons, Robert and Shirley Hobbs of Windom, Minn., and Michael and Melanie Hobbs of Sioux City; grandchildren, Gia and Ron Gunerius of Andover, Minn., Laci and Andrew Balfour of Minneapolis, Chad Hobbs of Windom, Jordon, Bethany, Joshua, Grace, Jacob and Lily Hobbs of Sioux City; a brother, Warren Hobbs of Kingsley, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his mother, Elfleda Hobbs; his grandfather, John Stevenson; and brothers, Don and Jack Hobbs.

The family wishes to thank all of the employees at Sunrise Manor and Hospice for all of their wonderful care of James "Jim" Hobbs.
