Sioux City - James A. "Ollie" Madsen, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, March 24,2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nativity. The Rev. Gerald Feierfeil will officiate. Inurnment will be a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Following the funeral, there will be a luncheon and gathering of family and friends at Paxton Tap. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Jim was born on Feb. 28,1940, in Sioux City, the son of Arnold W. and Mary Genevieve (Deveny) Madsen. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1958.
On July 6, 1968, he married Bernetta Schile in Sioux City. Jim worked in construction for several years and He also worked at IBP. He retired in 1993.
Jim was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. He was an avid cribbage player. What he loved most was being a husband, father and grandfather. He would spend many a day planning outings for his children, grandchildren and their friends. He loved giving hugs and just being with family. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Bernie of Sioux City; four children, David James Madsen of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and his special friend Lisa Hanson of Le Mars, Iowa, Lisa Madsen and her special friend Donald Hansen of Sioux City, Brian and Ann Madsen of Sioux City, and Jenny and Scott Oldenkamp of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Darin, Ben, Nick, Zack, Katie, Brooke, Ryan and Chrissy; a great-grandson, Jordan; his sister, Mary Jean Madsen of Coralville, Iowa; and his brother, Gregory of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother in infancy, Lawrence Patrick Madsen.
