SIOUX CITY -- James Edgar Rich, 81, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at his residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Jim was born June 4, 1927, in Sioux City, to Edgar Fred and Vivian M. (Addington) Rich. He grew up and attended Sioux City schools. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
He married Mae O. Pearson on Feb. 15, 1947, (who was originally from Alliance, Neb.) in Sioux City. He would have made their 62nd anniversary. He was employed with W.A. Klinger for 35 years as a millwright carpenter. He also worked for International Harvester, doing auto body and fender work for 15 years.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Moose Lodge Drill Team. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, doing lawn care, flowers, gardening, the dogs and visiting with friends. He lived a wonderful, sociable and active life. He was no stranger to anyone, he had no regrets and always moved forward. He touched many hearts and was well known and loved by all.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Rich; a daughter, Connie Clark; a son, Terry Rich; three grandchildren, Todd and Jodi Rich, Jolene Christian and Tammy and Gary Buntemeyer; four great-grandchildren, all of Sioux City; and three sisters, Jeanette Coleman, Mary Gunn and Sandy McArthur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Beverly Newell.
Pallbearers will be Todd Rich, John Prescott, Dennis Cosgrove, Chris Cosgrove, De Roy Hedemark and Mark Hilts.
