James H. Sneed, 89, of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Countryside Retirement Center.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with Pastor David Miller of Southern Hills Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery at Danville, Ark. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to

James was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Ecru, Miss., to Luther and Lula (Hall) Sneed. He attended high school in Bradford, Texas, and then later, S.W. Texas State and Arkansas Poly Technical College. He served in the U.S. Army as a pilot from 1943 to 1945.
He married Laverne Reynolds on March 19, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She passed away Nov. 14, 1970. He later married Yvonne Cripps on Dec. 3, 1971, in Sioux City. James was a pilot for the state of Arkansas, 15 years for Sinclair Oil Company and 25 years for I.B.P., retiring in 1990 as the head of the aviation department.
He was a member of the Abu Bekr Shriners and the Scottish Rite. He was also very active at Southern Hills Baptist Church as a volunteer and served on numerous committees. His greatest passion was flying although he also enjoyed hunting and fishing and took up the sport of golf following his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Louise (Coromy) Sneed; a daughter and her husband, Margaret Ann and Gene Fosnight of Boulder, Colo.; a son and his wife, James and Linda Sneed of Los Angeles, Calif.; two stepsons, Mark and his wife, Sandra Cripps and Doug Cripps, all of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Fosnight, Jennifer Sneed and Russ Cripps; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Edie and Dylan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two sisters, Charlene Gotcher and U.V. Baxter; and a brother, W.A. Sneed.
