SIOUX CITY -- Jane Louise Michels, 60, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at a local hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield, Iowa. The Rev. Kevin Vogts of Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dakota Dunes, and Dr. Keith Schweitzer of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will resume 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the church. Jane L. Mensing was born Nov. 27, 1949, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph E. and Blanch L. (Bricker) Mensing. She grew up and attended school in Greenfield, graduating from Greenfield High School in 1968.
She married James Michels on June 9, 1968, in Greenfield. Following her marriage, the couple lived in Marshalltown, Newton and Ida Grove, Iowa, areas. She worked as a nurses aide at several area nursing homes until moving to Sioux City in 1993. She then worked at Gateway Computers until 2003. James died June 17, 2003. She later worked at Casey's General Store in Riverside.
She was a member of Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed looking for antiques, sewing, doing crafts, baking and spending time with her dogs. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and seven grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, T.J. and wife, Tami Michels of North Sioux City; three daughters, Christina and her husband, Jeff Peterson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jennifer Wolfe and her significant other, Ryan Wadsworth, both of Sioux City, and Lara and her husband, Scott Bakos; seven grandchildren, Zach, Taylor, A.J., Kasey, Jacob, Andrew and Brittany; a sister-in-law, Vicki Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Harold and Rich Mensing.
A memorial fund has been established in her name in care of the family.
