Janet L. Maxwell, 76, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 3 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Janet Louise Grant, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys (Nelson) Grant, was born on Sept. 24, 1941, in Isle, Minn. She graduated from East High School in 1959. Janet then went to work in the office of Armour and Company.
On Dec. 16, 1978, Janet was united in marriage with Muriel "Max" Maxwell in California. The couple lived in Novato, Calif., where she was employed as an executive assistant at Great Western Bank. After moving to Sioux City in 1998, Janet worked at the Abu Bekr Shrine and the Orpheum Tyson Events Center as an usher. The couple loved to travel. Max died on Dec. 9, 2007.
Janet was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church. She also belonged to the Soroptimists and P.E.O. Chapter DX. Janet loved to bake and was an excellent cook, but church, family, and friends were the most important things in her life.
Janet is survived by a daughter, Tammy (Stephen) Carmassi of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara (Paul) Kelly of Sioux City; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Max; a daughter, Kelly Perkins; a brother, Don Grant; and a sister, Marilyn Larsen.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to Augustana Lutheran Church and Siouxland Hospice.
