Janet Marie McNaughton, 80, of Kingsley passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
Janet was born on Jan. 24, 1935, in Sioux City, the daughter of Roscoe and M. Lorraine (Sams) Hess. She grew up near Lawton, graduating from Lawton High School in 1953. Janet continued her education at the Sioux City School of Business. She then worked at Armour Packing Co.
Janet married Raynard H. McNaughton on Sept. 24, 1954 in Lawton. They made their home near Lawton for a short time before moving to rural Kingsley. Over the years, Janet worked for Plymouth County Extension, Farm Service Agency and Kingsley State Bank. Raynard preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1992.
Janet was an active member of United Methodist Church in Kingsley, where she had been past president of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Federated Garden Club, Questers Club, the Plymouth County Museum Association and an FSA board member. Janet was in charge of the flowers at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds for more than 30 years. She was an avid traveler, enjoyed quilting and working outside in her garden with the flowers.
She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne "Micki" McNaughton and Rob Nelson of Olympia, Wash.; two sons, Clay McNaughton of Bondurant, Iowa, and Brett (Hallie) McNaughton of Kingsley; two grandchildren, John and Ross; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raynard; her twin brother in infancy.
