SIOUX CITY -- Janice E. Jacobson, 66, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center following a two-year battle with cancer.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 12:30 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Janice was born June 29, 1945, in Pipestone, Minn., to William and Margaret (Spoelstra) Steele. She grew up and attended Pipestone High School.
She was married to Billy VanSteenberg and lived in Jasper, Minn. She was later married to Melvin "Jake" Jacobson. They made their home in Sioux City and eventually moving to Sergeant Bluff. When she came to Sioux City, she was employed with Zenith Corporation. She also ran the Bus Hotel and later the Homeless Shelter in downtown Sioux City with her husband. She later worked at Aalfs Manufacturing and was employed with the Floyd House in Sergeant Bluff for 10 and one half years, retiring in 2010.
She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, movies, doing word find and gatherings with family and friends.
Survivors include her three sons, Mark Jacobson, Todd (Diane) VanSteenberg of Kenneth, Minn., and Robert VanSteenberg of Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandchildren, Chase and Amie Jacobson of Sioux City, Ashley Jacobson and her fiance, Daniel Ayers of Sioux City, Trinity and Shaylee of Sioux City, MacKenzie of Sergeant Bluff, Dylan VanSteenberg of Sioux Falls, and Wyatt VanSteenberg of Kenneth; great-grandchildren, Jake, Haylee, Hayden and Brooke; brothers, Roger Steele of St. Peter, Minn., Daryl Steele of Pipestone, and Ronald Steele of Pipestone; a sister, Marlys Hafner of Howard, S.D.; a special friend, Dianne McCall of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
