Janice Marie Schwartz, 77, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, at a local nursing home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Janice was born on Jan. 26, 1939, in Sioux City, to Kenneth and Frances (McQuirk) Johnson. She graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School.
Janice was united in marriage to Richard Schwartz on Nov. 7, 1964. He preceded her in death in 1994. She worked at Sears for more than 40 years as well as Siouxland Paramedics for 18 years. Janice had an excellent work ethic and was a hard worker.
They loved to travel, visiting many places in the United States. Janice enjoyed her dogs, crafting, sewing, listening to music like Daniel O'Donnell and Elvis, was an avid book reader, especially Danielle Steele romance novels, and was an organist at St. Casimir Catholic Church. Janice also enjoyed watching musical movies like "The Sound of Music." Every New Year's Day, the family had a tradition of watching the Vienna Philharmonic New Year Festival on PBS.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Debbie (Stanley) Richmann of Calamus, Iowa; son, Jon Schwartz of Sioux City; sister, Rita Cunningham of Sioux City; brothers, Jim Johnson of Sioux City and Jerry (Phyllis) Johnson of Sioux City; niece, Heather Cunningham; nephews, Jon (Vicky) Cunningham and Kyle and Cody Johnson, all of Sioux City; and grandnephew, Tyler Cunningham of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Jon Johnson.
