Janice Marie Wink (Thies)

November 14, 1936 — April 21, 2012

MOVILLE, Iowa -- Janice Marie (Thies) Wink, 75, of Moville passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, at her residence from Parkinson's disease.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville. There will be a private family burial. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville.
Janice was born Nov. 14, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the sixth of eight children born to Fred and Theresa Thies. She was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She graduated from Correctionville (Iowa) High School in 1955.
Before starting a family, Janice worked for the U.S. Navy Department in Washington, D.C., the El Paso State Bank in Texas, and The Paranite Wire Company in California. She then moved to Moville, and started her own business, The Beauty Nook.
On Dec. 31, 1961, she married Gene Wink at Grace Lutheran Church in Correctionville. Together, they farmed in Moville until retirement in 2000. Gene and Janice had two daughters, Nancy Walker of Sioux City, and Tammy Wink-Campbell of Kingsley, Iowa.
Janice enjoyed volunteering at the Moville Senior Center, attending and leading many Bible studies throughout the years, sports, sewing, crafts and church activities. She rarely missed an activity of her children and grandchildren. She was a strong Christian example for her family throughout her life and during this lengthy illness. There is no doubt that Jesus is her Lord and Savior.
Survivors include her husband, Gene; children, Nancy and Kirk Walker of Sioux City, and Tammy and Roger Campbell of Kingsley. She dearly loved her two grandchildren, Alex and Alissa Walker. She is also survived by her sister, Arlene Bernhardt; three sisters-in-law, Norma Thies, Dorothy Thies and Lynda Wink; two brothers-in-law, Dick Streeter and Craig Ashmore; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by many family members, her parents, Fred and Theresa Thies and Johnnie and Elna Wink; her brothers, Elwood Thies, Duane Thies, infant brothers, James and Dean Thies; two sisters, Marge Streeter and Carol Ashmore; brothers-in-law, Roger Bernhardt, Marv Steffen and Larry Wink; and sister-in-law, Bev Steffen.
Janice lived and loved her faith. She leaves us with these words, "Let us give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good. His mercy endures forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34.
