Jean E. Brunick, 86, of Sioux City, passed away at her home Thursday, June 7, 2018.
Private family graveside service will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Jean was born in Rapid City, S.D., on Sept. 27, 1931, to Edward and Laura (Waloch) Soukup. She graduated high school in Scotland, S.D. while growing up in Lesterville, S.D.
Jean married Homer Brunick of Vermillion, S.D., before the couple moved to Sioux City in 1961. Throughout her life, Jean worked as a secretary. First for Audino Construction Company before retiring from Payless Cashway after 25 years of service.
She was a member of Riverside Methodist Church. Jean loved the collection and restoration of antiques, country-style decor, and the color red. If you didn't see Jean in her red Buick, she was outside of her house gardening as she loved to grow flowers. Jean kept her garden and her house in immaculate shape. But most importantly, she loved her family. Jean was totally dedicated to her family. She cared for her grandchildren like they were her own kids. Jean was an honest person who wanted the best for people, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Pam King of Colorado Springs, Colo., Glenn (Cindy) Brunick of Sioux City, Susan (Bill) Conlon of Sioux City, and Jodi (Randy) Deuhr of Sioux Falls, S.D.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Roy (Frances) Soukup of Yankton, S.D.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Laura; husband, Homer; son, Gerry Brunick; and stepfather, Harold Kremer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Siouxland in Jean's name.
