SIOUX CITY -- L. Jean Kutz, 87, of Sioux City passed away Monday, March 26, 2012, at her home.
Memorial and burial services will be at a later date in Silver Lake Cemetery, Lake Park, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Born on April 2, 1924, in Lake Park, Iowa, Jean was the daughter of William J. and C. Letitia (Northey) Lawson. Jean was raised on a farm in the Lake Park area and attended the Excelsior Township Schools. She was the honor graduate of Excelsior High School in 1941, earning a scholarship to Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo. After graduating from Chillicothe, she moved to Wapello, Iowa, where she worked for Wapello Power and Light Company. Later, she moved to Sioux City and worked for A.B. Dick Company and a local radio station.
She married David "Dave" Kutz on March 1, 1959, in Sioux City. After marrying, she and the growing family lived in several locations until settling in Sioux City upon Dave's retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1969. Dave Kutz preceded her in death on March 17, 2011, in Sioux City.
Jean enjoyed family, gardening, reading, sewing, and traveling. She operated a day-care out of her home for 10 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sioux City.
Jean is survived by three sons, Michael (Carol) Kutz of Lagrange, Maine, Keith (Brenda) Kutz of Ames, Iowa, and Douglas Kutz of Sioux City; one daughter, Lori (Jay) Rothman of Omaha; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Marshall (Ann) Lawson of Bettendorf, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Elwin; and a sister, Ruth Draper.
