Jennie "Jean" Gilbert

Jennie "Jean" Gilbert, 99, of Sioux City, died Sunday, May 7, 2017, at her residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Jennie "Jean" Haffield, the daughter Enoch and Mary Ann (Conway) Haffield, was born on July 13, 1917, in Osceola, Iowa. She graduated from Harris (Iowa) Consolidated High School in 1935 and went on to attend Edwards Business School.
On Sept. 17, 1940, Jean was united in marriage with Merle B. Gilbert in Sioux City. The couple moved to Sioux City from Omaha in 1942. Jean worked at the Stockyards in the office, calculating sales and commissions.
Jean was a member of the Stockettes and a former member of the Milwaukee Women's Club.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Diana L. Wilson of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle; five brothers, William, Charles, Lewis, Mylo, and Arthur; five sisters, Maye, Mildred, Edith, and Alice; and two nephews, Jerry and Jack.
