Jerlene Ruth "Jerry" Sterling (LaBrie)

November 23, 1929 — February 19, 2010

SIOUX CITY -- Jerlene "Jerry" Sterling, 80, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, February 22nd at the church with a parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Theresa Jerlene Ruth LaBrie was born Nov. 23, 1929, to Edward and Mary (Schroeder) LaBrie, in Jefferson, S.D. She attended and graduated from Cathedral High School with the class of 1947.

Jerry worked for Shuffle Inn for 25 years. She was the head of housekeeping and maintenance at Matney's Westside for 17 years.

She was a 50-year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she volunteered in many church activities. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, bowling and the Kansas City Chiefs. She really loved traveling to spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Callie (Jim) Cole of Evansville, Wyo., Pamela (Bill) Valentino of Des Moines and Leta (Tim) O'Neil of Bloomington, Minn.; sons, Joseph Sterling of Evansville, Steve (Linda) Steele of Sioux City and Timothy (Jacque) Sterling of Millken, Colo.; a daughter, Tatia Twito of Sioux City; a foster child, Bradley Korthals of Sioux City; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Kerr of Missouri, Irene Hoffman of New Mexico, and Marie (Chuck) Schauer of Texas; a sister-in-law, Delores LaBrie of Arkansas; a brother-in-law, Richard Sharp of Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children in infancy, Mary Ann and Scott; a daughter, Jan Kay; a great-grandchild, Christine Ann; brothers, Orien and Roland; sisters, Helen Sharp and Olivene LaBrie; a brother-in-law, Charles Hoffman; and the love of her life, Adolph "Dolphie" Nason.

Jerry was known to everyone who knew her as Grandma Jerry or Ma. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Memorials may be left for Masses in her name and/or the family.
