Jerome Neugebauer Jr.

Moville, Iowa - Jerome Neugebauer Jr., 69, of Moville died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, with the Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville.
Jerome was born on Sept. 5, 1943, in Parkston, S.D., the son of Jerome and Selma (Baier) Neugebauer Sr. He attended and graduated school from Parkston High School. Jerome continued his education at Southern State College at Springfield, S.D., and received his bachelor’s degree in education, graduating in 1965. He taught school at Hartington, Neb., and then Kingsley-Pierson before joining the U.S. Army in June 1969. He served in Germany during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in June 1971. Upon his return, he continued his teaching at Kingsley-Pierson Schools.
Jerome was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Dimock, S.D. He later transferred his membership to Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, when he married Maryann Balk on Sept. 16, 1973. They made their home on the farm south of Moville. In the late 1970s, Jerome retired from teaching and began farming. He farmed for many years and kept active with livestock until his death.
Jerome played sports during his high school and college years. He liked watching sports on TV, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and reading. He enjoyed his dogs on the farm, Dixie and Ben.
Survivors include wife, Maryann Neugebauer of Moville; a brother, William and Diane Neugebauer of Dimock, S.D.; a sister-in-law, Pearl Neugebauer of Parkston; a brother-in-law, William Balk of Moville; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Harold, Donald, Delbert and wife, Marlys, and Kenneth and wife, Vera Mae.
