Jerrine Nordgren

August 23, 1924 — January 8, 2017

Jerrine E. Nordgren, 92, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Countryside Nursing Home in Sioux City.
Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel.
Jerrine was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Mark and Lottie (Beach) Coleman. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. She attended school in Akron and graduated in 1942 from Akron High School. In 1942, she moved with her family to Sioux City.
Jerrine began working for Bell Telephone Company as an operator, and later worked for Wincharger and Zenith.
Jerrine met, as she would always say "My Everlovin," Robert "Red" Nordgren in 1947. They married on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1948. They had three sons, Robert, Mark and Jeff. Two years apart in age, they kept her busy while Red was always out of town, working as a conductor for Great Northern Railroad.
Jerrine was a member of First Christian Church in Sioux City. She enjoyed volunteering, the fellowship and various activities of the church. The family rarely missed a Sunday service.
Jerrine enjoyed crocheting, golf, bowling, senior center activities, travel and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. Spending time, shopping and visiting with her sister Joy Fletcher and their mother Lottie Coleman brought so much happiness.
When her three sons began to marry and grandchildren came, her world changed again. Blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, her life would never be the same.
Jerrine may have been short in stature, but was huge in pure love. She was always known to friends and family for her infectious smile, her wit and spirit. Her motto through challenging times was, "You just do the best you can." Jerrine carried this attitude throughout her life and during the challenging years in the nursing home. She was always up, positive and saying, "I am fine, don’t worry about me. I don’t need anything," and always a heartfelt "Thank you for coming to see me." Nursing home staff have shared many stories about Jerrine and this magical person who brought much joy to many lives.
The heavy heartbreak from losing this incredible person is healed by knowing that she is reunited with her mother, father and sister in heaven.
Survivors include her husband of almost 69 years, Robert "Red" Nordgren of Sioux City; three sons, Robert Nordgren of South Sioux City, and his children, Bobby, and Jessie and great-grandson Allan, Mark (Kathleen) Nordgren of Sioux Falls, S.D. and their sons, Jason (Katie), David (Amber) and great-grandson Owen, and Michael, and Jeff (Vivian) Nordgren of Jacksonville, Fla., and their children Jeremy, Rachel, and Shawn (Julie) and their sons Zachary, Skylar and Noah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Lottie Coleman; and her sister and her husband, Joy and Darcy Fletcher.
