Jerry Owen Barcus, 59, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017.
Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Jerry was born on Nov. 7, 1957, in Chamberlain, S.D., to Rex and Leona (DeSmet) Barcus. He was raised in Anthon, Iowa, and graduated from Anthon-Oto High School in 1976. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in September 1976. Jerry was honorably discharged in September 1979.
He was united in marriage to Theresa Putzier in Anthon on Nov. 12, 1977. Jerry graduated from Western Iowa Tech with an associate’s degree. He was employed with the City of Sioux City for 26 years in the maintenance/public works department, retiring in 2014.
Jerry loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, woodworking, building, and most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Theresa of Sioux City; children, Jennifer Barcus, Amanda (Erik) Beougher, Adam (Tina) Barcus, Isaac Barcus, Shawn Barcus, Calista and Preszly Barcus, all of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Kaleb, Chloe, Ava, Reese “Roo”, Belle and Addy; siblings, Kay (Richard) Sands, Yvette (Jerry) Stratton, Lori (Rick) Diamond, John (Dr. William Crone) Barcus and Tracy Barcus; sister-in-law, Tammy (Dan) Booth; brothers-in-law, Tony (Maggie) Putzier and Chris (April) Putzier; several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law, Franklin Putzier Sr.
